Courses
Blockchain for Climate Action
Course Objectives
By the end of this program, the participant will be able to:
- Examine the emerging digital technology and its implications on global climate change action – referring to international climate agreements and frameworks.
- Explain key blockchain affordances for climate action.
- Demonstrate through use cases the key types of Green Digital Asset Solutions and their application; Smart Grid Management and P2P Energy Trading; NFTs and Gamification; and Tokenization for climate action.
- Explain specific blockchain applications for verification, measurement, and reporting.
- Develop a blockchain for climate action strategy for their company, a country, or a hypothetical DAO (decentralized autonomous organizations) for climate action
Module 1: Course Introduction
This Module provides an overview of the critical deployments of blockchain for
climate action.
- A Framework for Climate Action
- Green digital asset solutions
- Smart Grid Management
- NFTs and Gamification
- Tokenization of Carbon Offsets
- Verification, measurement, and reporting
- DAO for Climate Action
Module 2: Green Digital Asset Solutions
This Module will provide a detailed introduction to Green Digital Asset Solutions
and practical examples of use cases.
- Carbon markets
- Green Blockchains
- Green tokens and green crypto
- Green STO issuance
Module 3: Smart Grid Management and P2P Energy Trading
This Module will examine Blockchain’s implementation in smart grids in
decentralized energy markets, allowing for the P2P trade of power reliably and
transparently.
- P2P energy trading
- Smart grids
- Energy marketplaces
- Solar energy and prosumers in rural settings
Module 4: Tokenization of Carbon Credits, NFTs, and Gamification
This Module will examine how NFTs and gamification are being leveraged for
climate change with initiatives ranging from awareness-raising to fundraising
and as an immutable record for impact and carbon credits.
- Carbon markets and tokenization of carbon credits
- NFTs
- Digital Art 4 Climate
- Gamification and net zero
Module 5: Verification, Measurement and Reporting
This Module examines how Blockchain will be a critical tool for measurement
and reporting combined with AI and IoT with large-scale interconnected
databases (e.g., climate, water, land) to develop action for desertification
and deforestation and predict weather events and trends.
Module 6: DAO for Climate Action
This Module will elaborate on how Blockchain can create new digital
economies which unite and economically align people around a common
purpose. It is possible to develop economies that value climate action.
- Introduction to DAOs
- DAO for global commons
- Climate case study
